I enjoyed your discussion of course, Daniel and Ben, but I have to say episode 2 of the TV show was a pretty uninspiring affair. Better than the pilot? No way. Not a chance. Everything this week seemed so formulaic (“lampshades” only help so much) and convenient. Too much suspension of disbelief required during the fight on the jet (wow, they can all hang on really tight for a really long time! wow, that inflatable raft just happens to fit the hole in the hull, and equalizes the cabin pressure!). Nothing surprised me, not even the revelation that Coulson’s former flame is, gasp, a traitor! (But, ok, maybe the revelation that Skye could be a mole surprised me.) The obligatory budding romance between Ward and Skye seems very, very forced. Also, this is a minor nitpick but… Coulson *must* learn to vary his speech cadence and inflection! Every line sounds the same! Ugh.

The series is going to have to do far better than this if it wants to keep casual MCU fans like me.

I was surprised to hear several listeners reacting so negatively to Skye. I thought she was one of the best things about the pilot, the other being Mike the guest star. I also wonder whether the reaction to Skye is different between female and male viewers.

(Hey, congratulations on the contracts, Ben! That is fantastic news!)

I have a theory about the title 0-8-4, ready? Oh, wait for it…

Get it? Oh (w)eight four… as in “oh, wait for the next episode, this one was lame.”
