Mikel Withers says
As young Peter Quill ran out of the hospital in the opening of the movie, I leaned over to my son and said, “I’m glad we aren’t watching THAT movie.” …then the spaceship showed up. I really thought it was another trailer.
I really liked this movie, and yes, it did get corny, but the entire movie had corniness to it already, so that wasn’t an issue.
You guys mentioned Quill had an internal translator, so could he understand Groot, but I think Groot said “I am Groot” and meant that he was Groot each time. Thus when he says “We are Groot” it means just that. It wasn’t that he was saying different things each time that just sounded the same to us.
