On the topic of whether or not Christian was being honest in his confession on why he forced Ward to push Thomas in the well, I think he was telling the truth. While I think Ben’s point that neither character is a reliable narrator is a good one, I’ve suspected that either one or both of the Ward parents were abusive since last season. Child psychopaths exist, but extremely aggressive behavior in children and adolescents is a classic warning sign of abuse that may be going on at home. Also, I think it’s important to remember that Ward told Skye in the episode from last season “The Only Light In The Darkness” that his parents were even worse than his brother. That doesn’t prove that their mother really was abusive, but it’s confirmation that Ward believed that to be true independent of his brother’s influence. Plus, now that we know for sure that he has been telling the truth all this time about what happened at the well, I don’t think there’s any reason to not believe Ward when he said his parents were even worse than Christian. I don’t think Ward or Christian can be trusted on much, but I do believe that they were both abused by their mother and that that abuse started them on the path to be the monsters they are (or in Christian’s case *was*) today.
That being said, while I do think that the trauma of Ward’s childhood helps explain the person he has become, I’m not among the fans who thinks Ward can be redeemed. Ward’s an adult and has made his own choices, many of which are far too horrifying to come back from. He’s had opportunities to do the right thing in the past and has chosen not to. He may not always be a villain on the show, but he has too much blood on his hands to ever be a hero. I think being a “grey” character is the best he can hope for.

Dark Grey? They do keep making it harder and harder to ever like him again!
