Wolverine #10 (Comic Files)

October 15, 2013 by Daniel Butcher Leave a Comment

Wolverine #10

Preamble

In Wolverine #10 the “Killable” storyline continues with Wolverine lacking his healing factor. As Wolverine wrestles with the demons of his past, S.H.I.E.L.D. seeks a cure to the nanovirus and Wolverine’s affliction. In this third of six installments, will S.H.I.E.L.D. get any closer to stopping this unseen enemy that has battled Wolverine and Fury Jr. for nearly a year?

Situation Report

Wolverine, wearing a motorcycle helmet for the first time, and Kitty Pryde ride the back roads of Canada to recover Logan’s sword. After a strange encounter with a weaponized acupuncturist, they discover that Logan’s first home has been modernized. Inside a local mall, the pair of X-Men prepare to face off against Sabertooth and his Hand assassins. Within the decks of an S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, Hill and Fury work with The Host to make a plan to control the nanovirus. The Host also reveals that she cannot heal Logan, but the virus may be able to restart his healing factor. The issue ends with an update on the extent of the nanovirus’ spread around the globe.

Level Seven Analysis

Overall, I am pretty unenthused about this issue. My favorite moments are the pages with S.H.I.E.L.D. action. We get a glimpse of Fury and The Host flirting which make me chuckle as they clearly dislike each other. And we get insight into Fury, who is willing to work with the Host if it can help save his friend…oh and the world I guess. Fury, as we have seen before, is willing to tread into the grey if it helps him achieve his goal.

Otherwise, my second favorite moment is the bar bunch, who have protected themselves against the nanovirus. Their one page gives the unpowered view of the virus and what to expect. And I really enjoy the bar bunch. I easily could have taken more than a page of them.

Otherwise the Wolverine action was okay but not great to me.

Conclusion

The world is in crisis. A nanovirus is slowly spreading across the globe. Wolverine is the clearest victim of this threat, with his lost healing ability. I am just hoping that in issue #11 the action picks up some, and maybe they consider renaming this title Wolverine and Fury! Or how about Claws and Patches!
