Hey guys! Great review so far – given that it’s two hours, I haven’t been able to listen to the whole thing yet, but look forward to finishing it.
My initial reaction to the pilot, as a superhero fan but with no huge investment in Marvel, is that I really enjoyed it and think the series has a lot of potential. My favorite characters were Coulson (no shock there), Skye (real Buffy vibe going on there at times), and Mike the guest star – I hope they bring him back! Fitz-Simmons are a little annoying, and Ward is kind of nondescript, but I am sure they will develop him as things progress. Ditto with Melinda May. I gather comic fans know her already? I had not a clue. But I enjoyed the action and the guest star’s plot quite a lot.
I agree with Daniel that Coulson is moving away from us at a rapid pace. Coulson was an everyman in THOR and AVENGERS, but he can’t be now that he’s the boss and is back from the dead. I am guessing Coulson is a clone (not unknown in the Marvel universe)? I dunno, and haven’t been following speculation online, so I trust I shall be surprised!
I hope they bring back Ron Glass! He is so great. He is the one thing about FIREFLY/SERENITY I immediately and unequivocally liked.
Wasn’t “Gramzy” just a punchline? And a lame one, I thought, although I liked the idea that Coulson would use the truth serum on Ward to gain Skye’s cooperation.
My wife watched it with me. She is predisposed to like genre stuff, though is always quick to say (and truthfully) that she doesn’t get into it as much as I do. Still, she enjoyed the show, and I think this is one we may be able to watch together regularly.
So, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” off to a good, strong start, as are the two of you!
PS. Deep Space Nine ran seven years, guys, and is regarded by many fans (not me, though I respect and enjoy it very much) as the best Trek series yet produced.

Did you notice that Mara Hill called Mike something like an unregistered Super?
Sounds like a reference to Civil War

Reminded me of the same thing.

My wife who has never read Civil War thought of the X-Men.

I’m not saying that is accurate…I’m just pointing out a thought that popped into her head.

Hello guys. I love the podcast. I’ve listened to 6 episodes so far up to your season recap. As a result, I have had to rewatch a few episodes to remind myself what you are discussing. While rewatching the pilot, I had the captions on and noticed something you and the rest of your listener’s feedback have missed. Check this out. Go to the 15:32 mark in this episode and listen/read what Simmons is saying about the gun . And I quote, “:It’s a MARVEL I can keep them from breaking apart in the chamber.”: I thought it was pretty cool how they slipped that line in there.
