Episode 5 was without doubt the series’ strongest episode yet. Unfortunately, that was largely due to the guest stars being so interesting! (Good call on the issue of needing more a diverse main cast, Ben.) When the guest stars of a series are routinely more compelling than the regular cast… well, let’s just say, “Marvel, we have a problem.”
Still, I did thoroughly enjoy this hour of television; was proud of myself for connecting Scorch (not a bad villain code name at all, in my opinion!) to the Centipede project early on; and am looking forward to finding out who the bad guy in the prison is. (Speaking of which, my wife, who is a pastor and has visited people in prison, said, “I wish we had that set-up during real jail visits! No one gets private, one-on-one phone calls like that!”)
If the show can keep episodes like this one coming, and can make the main characters less predictable, the show will quickly mature into a really fine production. (They also need to make their falling action clearer – what did May inject into Scorch, and why? Something to accelerate his demise, to put him out of his misery? A little confusing right at the end – a misstep in an otherwise clear and well-constructed show.)
I do hope we’re finally done with Skye’s “is she a good guy or a bad guy” arc. Ho-hum. I will praise our regular characters on this point: in showing us a fallible and flawed Coulson, the show is making him more compelling than he was even in THE AVENGERS, and Clark Gregg is hitting some nice emotional beats. The ending scene with Skye was perfect, mostly thanks to him.
Your podcast, as ever, remains great! Keep up the excellent work! (Best moment yet: Daniel saying, “She does not make construction equipment; she makes supervillains!”)
I think she injected him with an overdose super soldier serum to accelerate the extremis effect. Although am not still sure why he didn’t scorch himself since the only thing that kept him from burning were gone(platelets).
Episode 4 was really great. I don’t think blinking should be an issue when it comes to the hacked robot eye feed. Humans blink so fast they don’t even notice that their view was obstructed for a tiny amount of time so maybe the robot eye was made with some form of feed delay or something else to make up for blinking. My theory is based on the fact that we don’t see amador blinking at all throughout the time the team were monitoring her and come to think about it, it will really suck for her handler and her handler’s handler if her eyelids keep covering the feed every few seconds since humans blink a lot per minute. Hope you guys understand me.
Anyway, I have questions for you guys.
1) I remember in the pilot episode,agent ward asks coulson if nick furry knows he’s alive and coulson says nick furry is clearance level 6 then at the “post credit scene” in 0-8-4, we see nick furry scolding coulson which was a hilarious scene by the way. Was the scene just added for comedy or does furry know coulson is alive?
2) Is the bus always in the air? At the begining of each episode, the bus is always shown in flying mode. Kinda reminds me of Alias. I think it was SD-12 that was an always-in-the-air section of the whole crime empire. Anyway, the bus will have to spend millions of dollars if it is air based except it is run on tesseract energy.
Speaking of episode 5,why did scorch not scorch himself while scorching people since the thing keeping him from scorching himself was taken by centipede. The whole fire-shield was cool but it should have burned him alive. And I do agree with you that the whole gridlock protocol car chase scene was rushed. I must say Raina has some kind of calm persuasive trusting attractive feeling that makes people trust her, I even started trusting her. Speaking of the clairvoyant, a clairvoyant is someone that can sense thing that normal humans can’t sense or see/predict the future. Since this is the MCU, I think raina is referring to an actual super powered human who can tell the future. Soo sad I have to wait 2 weeks to see the next episode.
Thanks guys for your great podcasts, I really enjoy them a lot. Please I need more insight on marvel licensing and disney stuff and things that can show up in the show and things that can’t like mutants so I can know what not to expect. Ciao
